Brazil’s largest coffee cooperative, Expocacer, is set to make waves in the global coffee industry with its first online auction on Coffee Chain, a blockchain-based trading platform. This groundbreaking event takes place Dec. 11-12 and promises to offer traceable specialty lots to roasters and importers worldwide.
Expocacer’s Essências program supports small- and medium-sized members in producing high-value specialty coffees, with the upcoming auction focusing on top-scoring microlots from Cerrado Mineiro, a renowned coffee-growing region in Minas Gerais. The online-only auction will provide farm-level traceability and documentation, enhancing transparency and trust within the supply chain.
Coffee Chain, developed by Expocacer and Brazilian tech firm AIDDA, offers more than just a digital trading platform. It tracks production, inventory, and sales data on the blockchain, logs certificates and designation-of-origin verifications, and provides tools for contract negotiations and management. The system was introduced at the 2025 Specialty Coffee Expo in Houston as an e-commerce solution for direct and transparent trade.
Supported by logistics hubs in the United States and UK, Coffee Chain currently serves over 40 export destinations and has shown consistent growth in its user base and sales volume. Sandra Moraes, Expocacer’s Specialty Coffee Manager, noted that the platform’s relevance and high competitiveness in the U.S. market encouraged further evolution of the Coffee Chain platform.
The cooperative expects to close 2025 with about $545 million in revenue, marking a 58% increase from 2024, with more than half of sales going to foreign markets.
