Yellow Sun Coffee Roasters Reimagines Single-Origin Excellence in Brooklyn

Brooklyn’s coffee scene just got a bold new player. Yellow Sun Coffee Roasters, the minimalist Brooklyn spot co-created by Saudi Arabian roasting visionary Mohammad Wahid, is redefining single-origin coffee with a blend of precision, transparency, and a dash of Middle Eastern flair. Since opening in Bushwick last fall, the shop has become a quiet revolution, offering meticulously curated roasts that spotlight the terroir of far-flung farms. Wahid, who moved to New York in 2023, isn’t just selling coffee—he’s crafting a narrative about how traceable, high-quality beans can elevate the everyday cup.

The brand’s ethos is rooted in simplicity and clarity. Every roast begins with a flavor roadmap, sourcing samples from trusted suppliers and testing them internally before final selection. The result? A menu that balances classic espresso-based drinks with experimental filter offerings. Think cardamom lattes with a hint of spice, or floral, fruity single-origin pour-overs that change every two weeks. Current highlights include an anaerobic-natural-process Yemen coffee, a honey-processed Costa Rican blend, and a natural-process Ethiopian from the Guji region. These aren’t just beans—they’re stories, each with a map of soil, weather, and human hands.

Wahid’s background adds depth to Yellow Sun’s mission. A former Saudi coffee industry pioneer, he’s brought his expertise from Hemi Coffee to Brooklyn, where he’s now collaborating with local artisans like UnD and Paloma. The shop’s design—wooden tones, minimalist layouts, and a focus on efficient bar workflow—reflects his belief that coffee should feel both refined and approachable. Yet the real magic lies in the roasting: a 15-kilogram Loring machine at Shared Roasting ensures consistency, while the Mavam Mach 2 and Mahlkönig E65S GBW grind the perfect balance between extraction and flavor.

The takeaway? Single-origin coffee isn’t just a trend—it’s a conversation. Yellow Sun proves that transparency, craftsmanship, and a willingness to experiment can turn beans into experiences. But here’s the question: If you could only drink one single-origin coffee for the rest of your life, which one would it be?
